Ingredients

Scale

For the fritters:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 1/2 cups peeled and diced apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)

For the glaze (optional):

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  3. Combine Wet Ingredients
In another bowl, whisk the milk, eggs, vanilla, and melted butter until smooth.
  4. Add Apples
Gently fold the diced apples into the wet mixture.
  5. Form the Dough
Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined. The dough should be thick and slightly sticky.
  6. Shape the Fritters
Scoop about 1/4 cup of batter onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them at least an inch apart. Flatten slightly with the back of a spoon.
  7. Bake
Bake for 15-18 minutes or until the fritters are golden brown and firm to the touch.
  8. Prepare the Glaze
While the fritters cool slightly, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth.
  9. Glaze and Serve
Drizzle the glaze over the warm fritters and let it set for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Maple Glaze – Swap out the milk in the glaze for pure maple syrup.
  • Nutty Crunch – Add 1/2 cup of chopped pecans or walnuts to the batter.
  • Spiced Boost – Increase the cinnamon and add a pinch of ground cloves for extra warmth.
  • Caramel Drizzle – Instead of glaze, top with warm caramel sauce.
