Description

Quick and simple ground beef tacos are the perfect meal for busy nights. Ready in just 25 minutes, these easy tacos use pantry staples and are fully customizable with your favorite toppings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef (80/20 or leaner)
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 packet taco seasoning (or homemade – see variation below)
  • ½ cup water
  • 8 small taco shells (soft or hard)
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1 cup diced tomatoes
  • ½ cup shredded cheese (cheddar, Monterey Jack, or a blend)
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • ¼ cup chopped fresh cilantro (optional)
  • ½ cup salsa or taco sauce

Instructions

  1. Cook the Ground Beef – In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon. Drain excess grease if necessary.
  2. Add Aromatics and Seasoning – Stir in the chopped onion and minced garlic, cooking for 2-3 minutes until fragrant. Add the taco seasoning and water, mix well, and simmer for 5 minutes until thickened.
  3. Warm the Taco Shells – Heat taco shells according to package instructions in the oven, on a skillet, or in the microwave.
  4. Assemble the Tacos – Fill each taco shell with seasoned beef, then top with lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, and additional toppings of choice.
  5. Serve and Enjoy – Drizzle with sour cream, sprinkle with cilantro, and add salsa or taco sauce. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Homemade Taco Seasoning: Combine 1 tsp chili powder, ½ tsp cumin, ½ tsp paprika, ¼ tsp garlic powder, ¼ tsp onion powder, ¼ tsp salt, and a pinch of cayenne.
  • Spicy Version: Add diced jalapeños or hot sauce.
  • Healthier Alternative: Use ground turkey or chicken instead of beef.
