Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb flank steak, sliced thin against the grain
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced into strips
  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced into strips
  • 1 small onion, sliced
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • Cooked white rice, for serving

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Beef

  1. In a small bowl, mix cornstarch and water to create a slurry.
  2. Toss the sliced beef with half of the soy sauce and the cornstarch slurry. Let marinate for 10-15 minutes.

Step 2: Make the Sauce
3. In another bowl, whisk together the remaining soy sauce, oyster sauce, sugar, black pepper, red pepper flakes (if using), and beef broth. Set aside.

Step 3: Sauté the Beef
4. Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
5. Add the beef in a single layer and sear for 1-2 minutes per side until browned. Remove and set aside.

Step 4: Cook the Vegetables
6. In the same pan, add the remaining oil.
7. Sauté the garlic and ginger for 30 seconds until fragrant.
8. Add the onion and bell peppers, stir-frying for 3-4 minutes until slightly tender but still crisp.

Step 5: Combine and Finish
9. Return the beef to the pan and pour in the prepared sauce.
10. Stir well, allowing the sauce to thicken for about 2 minutes.
11. Drizzle with sesame oil and mix.

Step 6: Serve
12. Serve hot over steamed white rice or noodles.
13. Garnish with sesame seeds or sliced green onions if desired.
