- 24 ladyfinger biscuits (savoiardi)

For the Chocolate Layer:
- ½ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- ¼ cup heavy cream

Prepare the Chocolate Mixture:
- Heat ¼ cup of heavy cream in a small saucepan until warm (but not boiling).
- Remove from heat, add the chocolate chips, and stir until smooth. Set aside to cool.

Make the Mascarpone Filling:
- In a mixing bowl, whip the heavy cream, sugar, and vanilla extract until soft peaks form.
- Gently fold in the softened mascarpone cheese until smooth and creamy.

Dip and Layer the Ladyfingers:
- Combine the cooled brewed coffee and coffee liqueur (if using) in a shallow dish.
- Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture and arrange them in a single layer in a 9×9-inch dish.

Assemble the Tiramisu:
- Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers.
- Drizzle half of the melted chocolate mixture over the mascarpone layer.
- Add another layer of dipped ladyfingers and repeat the mascarpone and chocolate layers.

Chill and Serve:
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours (overnight is best).
- Before serving, dust with cocoa powder and sprinkle chocolate shavings on top.
