Ingredients

  • ¾ cup (150g) granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup (50g) brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup (60g) all-purpose flour
  • ¼ teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder

Instructions

Step 1: Melt the Chocolate

  • In a heatproof bowl, combine chopped chocolate and butter. Melt using a double boiler or microwave in 20-second intervals, stirring each time, until smooth. Let cool slightly.

Step 2: Prepare the Batter

  • In a large bowl, whisk granulated sugar, brown sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract until light and fluffy.

Step 3: Combine Ingredients

  • Slowly pour in melted chocolate while whisking continuously.
  • Sift in flour, baking powder, salt, and cocoa powder. Gently fold until just combined (do not overmix).

Step 4: Add Chocolate Chips (Optional)

  • Fold in chocolate chips or chunks for extra chocolate flavor.

Step 5: Shape the Cookies

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough onto the sheet, spacing them apart.

Step 6: Bake

  • Bake for 8–10 minutes until edges are set but centers remain soft.
  • Let cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
