The Best Fudgy Chewy Brownies Recipe

  • Total Time: 45-50 minutes
  • Yield: 12-16 brownies 1x

Description

These fudgy chewy brownies have a perfect crackly top, rich chocolate flavor, and dense, indulgent texture. Made with cocoa powder and melted chocolate, they are easy to make and customizable with mix-ins like nuts or caramel.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (225g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 ½ cups (300g) granulated sugar
  • ½ cup (100g) brown sugar, packed
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • ¾ cup (75g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup (125g) all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup (170g) dark or semisweet chocolate, melted
  • ½ cup (90g) chocolate chips (optional)
  • ½ cup (60g) chopped nuts (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat & Prepare: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper and grease lightly.
  • Mix Wet Ingredients: Whisk melted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until smooth. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well. Stir in vanilla extract.
  • Incorporate Cocoa & Chocolate: Sift in cocoa powder and mix well. Add melted chocolate and stir until glossy.
  • Add Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, salt, and baking powder. Fold into wet mixture until just combined. Avoid overmixing.
  • Add Mix-Ins (Optional): Gently fold in chocolate chips and nuts if using.
  • Bake: Pour batter into the prepared pan, spread evenly, and bake for 30-35 minutes, until a toothpick inserted comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  • Cool & Serve: Let cool completely in the pan before slicing. For cleaner cuts, chill in the refrigerator for 30 minutes before slicing.

Notes

  • Storage: Store at room temperature for up to 4 days, refrigerate for up to a week, or freeze for up to 3 months.
  • Reheating: Microwave for 10-15 seconds for a fresh-from-the-oven taste.
  • Crackly Top Tip: Whisk sugars and eggs thoroughly to achieve the signature crackly texture.
