  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 small onion, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, minced
  • ½ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • ½ cup beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water (for thickening)
  • Cooked white or brown rice, for serving

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Beef – Toss the sliced steak with cornstarch and soy sauce. Marinate for 10 minutes.
  2. Make the Sauce – Whisk together oyster sauce, hoisin sauce (if using), sesame oil, sugar, and beef broth.
  3. Stir-Fry the Beef – Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Sear beef for 2 minutes per side. Remove and set aside.
  4. Cook the Vegetables – Add 1 tablespoon oil, sauté onions, garlic, and ginger for 1 minute. Add bell peppers and cook for 2-3 minutes.
  5. Combine Everything – Return beef to skillet, pour in sauce, and stir well. Add cornstarch slurry and cook until thickened. Sprinkle with red pepper flakes if desired.
  6. Serve – Serve hot over rice.
