- 1 tablespoon sugar
- ¾ cup warm water (110°F/45°C)
- ¼ cup milk (or water for dairy-free)
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil or melted butter
Instructions
- Prepare the Dough:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, yeast, salt, and sugar.
- Gradually add warm water, milk, and oil, mixing until a dough forms.
- Knead on a lightly floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- First Rise:
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours until doubled in size.
- Shape the Dough:
- Punch down the dough and shape into a round or oval loaf.
- Cook on the Stovetop:
- Heat a heavy-bottomed pan over low heat and grease lightly.
- Place dough in the pan, cover, and cook for 10-15 minutes.
- Flip and cook the other side for another 10-15 minutes until golden brown.
- Cool and Serve:
- Remove from the pan and cool on a wire rack for 15 minutes before slicing.
Notes
- Herb & Garlic Bread: Add 1 teaspoon dried herbs and minced garlic.
- Whole Wheat Version: Substitute half of the flour with whole wheat flour.
