KFC-Style Coleslaw Recipe

  • Total Time: 4 hours 15 minutes
  • Yield: 8-10 slices 1x

Description

This KFC-style coleslaw recipe replicates the restaurant’s famous creamy, tangy, and slightly sweet slaw. Perfect as a BBQ side, it’s easy to make and best served chilled.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 medium head of green cabbage, finely chopped
  • 2 medium carrots, grated
  • ¼ cup onion, finely minced
  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • ⅓ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup whole milk
  • ¼ cup buttermilk
  • 2 tablespoons white vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Vegetables

  1. Remove the outer leaves of the cabbage and finely chop it using a food processor or knife to achieve a finely minced texture.
  2. Grate the carrots and finely mince the onion.
  3. Mix cabbage, carrots, and onion in a large bowl.

Step 2: Make the Dressing

  1. In a separate bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, sugar, milk, buttermilk, white vinegar, lemon juice, salt, and pepper until smooth.

Step 3: Combine and Chill

  1. Pour the dressing over the cabbage mixture and stir until evenly coated.
  2. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 4 hours (preferably overnight) to allow the flavors to meld.

Step 4: Serve

  1. Give the coleslaw a final stir before serving.
  2. Serve chilled as a side dish.

Notes

  • Lighter Version – Substitute Greek yogurt for mayonnaise.
  • Sweeter Coleslaw – Add an extra tablespoon of sugar.
  • Extra Tangy – Increase the vinegar or lemon juice.
  • Spicy Twist – Add a pinch of cayenne pepper or hot sauce.
