Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground pork (or ground turkey, chicken, or beef)
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 small onion, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
- 1/2 head cabbage, shredded (or 3 cups coleslaw mix)
- 1 cup shredded carrots
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce (or coconut aminos for a gluten-free option)
- 1 teaspoon rice vinegar
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for spice)
- 2 green onions, sliced
- 1 teaspoon sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- Cook the Protein: Heat sesame oil in a large skillet or wok over medium heat. Add ground pork (or preferred protein) and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spatula. Drain excess grease if necessary.
- Sauté Aromatics: Add diced onion, minced garlic, and grated ginger to the pan. Sauté for about 2 minutes until fragrant.
- Add the Vegetables: Stir in shredded cabbage and carrots. Cook for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables soften but retain some crunch.
- Season the Dish: Pour in soy sauce, rice vinegar, black pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using). Stir well and cook for another 2 minutes to meld flavors.
- Garnish and Serve: Remove from heat, sprinkle with sliced green onions and sesame seeds. Serve on its own or over steamed rice or cauliflower rice.
Notes
- Vegetarian Option: Use crumbled tofu or chopped mushrooms instead of ground meat.
- Keto-Friendly: Reduce or omit carrots to lower the carb count.
- Extra Crunch: Add water chestnuts or bamboo shoots.
- Spicy Kick: Increase red pepper flakes or add sriracha.
