Honey Garlic Chicken Recipe

  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

Honey Garlic Chicken is a quick and flavorful dish featuring tender chicken coated in a sweet, savory, and slightly tangy sauce. Perfect for weeknight dinners, this easy recipe comes together in under 30 minutes and pairs well with rice, noodles, or vegetables.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 lbs boneless, skinless chicken thighs (or breasts), cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce (low sodium preferred)
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar (or apple cider vinegar)
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, grated (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons water (for cornstarch slurry)
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for spice)
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds (for garnish)
  • 2 green onions, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Chicken

  1. Season chicken pieces with salt and black pepper.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a large pan over medium-high heat.
  3. Add chicken and cook until golden brown on all sides (about 5-7 minutes). Remove from pan and set aside.

Step 2: Make the Sauce 4. In the same pan, add minced garlic and ginger. Sauté for 30 seconds until fragrant. 5. Pour in honey, soy sauce, and rice vinegar, stirring to combine. 6. Bring to a gentle simmer for about 2 minutes.

Step 3: Thicken the Sauce 7. In a small bowl, mix cornstarch with water to create a slurry. 8. Slowly add the slurry to the sauce while stirring continuously. Cook for another 1-2 minutes until thickened.

Step 4: Combine and Serve 9. Return cooked chicken to the pan, tossing to coat in the sauce. 10. Let simmer for another 2-3 minutes until chicken is fully cooked and coated. 11. Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions. 12. Serve hot over rice, noodles, or steamed vegetables.

Notes:

  • Spicy Honey Garlic Chicken: Add extra red pepper flakes or sriracha.
  • Crispy Version: Coat chicken in cornstarch before frying for extra crunch.
  • Gluten-Free Option: Use tamari or coconut aminos instead of soy sauce.
  • Slow Cooker Version: Add all ingredients (except cornstarch slurry) to a slow cooker and cook on low for 4-5 hours. Stir in slurry at the end to thicken.
