For the Noodles:

  • 8 ounces fresh or dried ramen noodles

Toppings (Choose Your Favorites):

  • Soft-boiled eggs (marinated in soy sauce)
  • Sliced pork (chashu) or grilled chicken
  • Green onions, chopped
  • Mushrooms (shiitake, enoki, or button)
  • Nori (seaweed sheets)
  • Bamboo shoots
  • Corn kernels
  • Bean sprouts
  • Chili oil or sesame seeds (for garnish)

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Broth

  1. Heat sesame oil in a large pot over medium heat.
  2. Add garlic and ginger, sauté until fragrant (about 1 minute).
  3. Pour in the broth and bring to a simmer.
  4. Stir in soy sauce, miso paste, mirin, and fish sauce.
  5. Simmer for at least 30 minutes to develop flavors.
  6. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed.

Step 2: Cook the Noodles

  1. Bring a separate pot of water to a boil.
  2. Add ramen noodles and cook per package instructions (typically 2-3 minutes for fresh noodles).
  3. Drain and rinse under cold water to prevent sticking.

Step 3: Prepare the Toppings

  1. Soft-boil eggs by boiling for 6-7 minutes, then transfer to an ice bath.
  2. Slice meats, mushrooms, and green onions.
  3. Marinate eggs in soy sauce for extra flavor.

Step 4: Assemble the Ramen Bowl

  1. Divide cooked noodles into serving bowls.
  2. Ladle hot broth over the noodles.
  3. Arrange toppings as desired.
  4. Garnish with chili oil, sesame seeds, or additional seasonings.

Notes

  • For a richer broth, simmer for up to 2 hours and use pork or chicken bones.
  • Store broth and noodles separately to maintain texture.
  • Fresh or frozen ramen noodles offer the best texture compared to instant noodles.
  • Adjust spice level with chili oil or sriracha.
