Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Dough

  1. In a large mixing bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm milk and let it sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add the sugar, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract, mixing until combined.
  3. Gradually add the flour and salt, mixing with a stand mixer fitted with a dough hook or by hand. Knead until the dough is smooth and elastic (about 5-7 minutes).
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours or until doubled in size.

Step 2: Shape the Donuts 5. Once risen, roll out the dough on a floured surface to about ½-inch thickness. 6. Use a donut cutter or two differently sized round cutters to cut out donut shapes. 7. Place the cut donuts on a parchment-lined baking sheet and cover with a towel. Let them rise again for 30-45 minutes.

Step 3: Fry the Donuts 8. Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C). 9. Carefully place 2-3 donuts in the hot oil at a time, frying for about 1-2 minutes per side until golden brown. 10. Use a slotted spoon to transfer the donuts to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Step 4: Add Toppings 11. For a Classic Glaze: Whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract. Dip warm donuts into the glaze and let them set on a wire rack. 12. For Cinnamon Sugar: Mix granulated sugar and cinnamon in a bowl. Roll the warm donuts in the mixture until evenly coated.
