Ingredients
- Pasta: 8 oz (225g) spaghetti, fettuccine, or penne
- Oil/Butter: 2 tbsp olive oil or butter
- Garlic: 4 cloves, minced
- Mushrooms: 8 oz (225g) sliced (button, cremini, or shiitake)
- Spice: ½ tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
- Cream (optional): ½ cup heavy cream or milk
- Cheese: ¼ cup grated Parmesan (plus more for serving)
- Pasta Water: ¼ cup (reserved)
- Herbs: 1 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
- Seasoning: Salt and black pepper, to taste
- Lemon Juice: 1 tsp (optional, for added freshness)
Instructions

Cook the Pasta
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
- Cook the pasta according to package instructions until al dente.
- Reserve ¼ cup of pasta water before draining.

Sauté the Mushrooms and Garlic
- Heat olive oil or butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add sliced mushrooms and cook for 5-7 minutes until golden brown.
- Stir in garlic and red pepper flakes, cooking for another 1-2 minutes.

Combine Ingredients
- Lower the heat and add reserved pasta water.
- Stir in heavy cream (if using) and let simmer for 1 minute.
- Add cooked pasta, Parmesan cheese, and lemon juice. Toss well.
- Season with salt and black pepper to taste.

- Sprinkle with fresh parsley and additional Parmesan.
