  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

Make this easy beef teriyaki recipe in just 30 minutes! Tender beef coated in a sweet and savory sauce, perfect with rice or noodles. A family-friendly dinner idea!

Ingredients

Scale

For the Sauce:

  • 1/3 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons mirin (or rice vinegar)
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch (mixed with 1 tablespoon water for slurry)

For the Beef:

  • 1 pound beef sirloin or flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  • Prepare the Sauce:
In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, brown sugar, mirin, honey, sesame oil, garlic, and ginger. Add water and stir until combined.
  • Cook the Beef:
Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Season beef slices with salt and pepper. Add beef to the skillet in a single layer and cook for 2-3 minutes on each side until browned. Remove beef and set aside.
  • Thicken the Sauce:
Pour the prepared sauce into the same skillet and bring to a simmer over medium heat. Add the cornstarch slurry and stir until the sauce thickens, about 2 minutes.
  • Combine:
Return the cooked beef to the skillet and toss to coat evenly in the sauce. Cook for 2-3 more minutes to meld the flavors.
  • Serve:
Serve the beef teriyaki over steamed rice or noodles. Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions if desired.

Notes

  • Add Vegetables: Include broccoli, bell peppers, or snap peas for a nutritious twist.
  • Storage: Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 2 months.
  • Reheating Tip: Add a splash of water when reheating to prevent the sauce from becoming too thick.
  • Customizations: Use tamari for a gluten-free option or adjust the sweetness by reducing the brown sugar.
