Description
A bold and flavorful Spicy Korean Chicken recipe made with gochujang, garlic, and soy sauce. Ready in just 30 minutes, this dish is perfect for busy weeknights and can be served with rice, noodles, or lettuce wraps.
Ingredients
- 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken thighs (cut into bite-sized pieces)
- 2 tablespoons gochujang (Korean chili paste)
- 1 tablespoon gochugaru (Korean chili flakes) (optional for extra spice)
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon honey (or brown sugar)
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 3 cloves garlic (minced)
- 1 teaspoon ginger (grated)
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil (for cooking)
- 1 green onion (sliced, for garnish)
- 1 teaspoon sesame seeds (for garnish)
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Sauce
In a small bowl, whisk together gochujang, gochugaru (if using), soy sauce, sesame oil, honey, rice vinegar, garlic, and ginger. Set aside.
Step 2: Cook the Chicken
Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the chicken pieces and cook for about 5-6 minutes until browned and almost fully cooked.
Step 3: Add the Sauce
Reduce the heat to medium and pour the sauce over the chicken. Stir well to coat evenly. Continue cooking for another 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens and the chicken is fully cooked.
Step 4: Garnish and Serve
Remove from heat and sprinkle with sliced green onions and sesame seeds. Serve immediately over steamed rice, noodles, or in lettuce wraps.
Notes
- Protein Swap: Substitute chicken with tofu, shrimp, or thinly sliced beef.
- Vegetable Boost: Add bell peppers, carrots, or mushrooms for extra nutrition.
- Milder Version: Reduce or omit the gochugaru for a less spicy dish.
- Sweeter Taste: Increase honey or add a teaspoon of mirin.
