Description

2 pounds Yukon Gold or Russet potatoes, peeled and sliced into ¼-inch rounds

4 tablespoons unsalted butter

6 cloves garlic, minced

2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

1½ cups whole milk

1 cup heavy cream

½ teaspoon salt (or to taste)

¼ teaspoon ground black pepper

½ teaspoon dried thyme (optional)

1 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)


Instructions

  • Preheat & Prep Dish:
    Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.

  • Slice Potatoes:
    Peel and thinly slice potatoes into ¼-inch rounds. Soak in cold water for 10–15 minutes to remove excess starch, then drain and pat dry.

  • Make Garlic Sauce:

    • Melt butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat.

    • Add garlic; sauté for 1–2 minutes until fragrant.

    • Stir in flour and cook for another 1–2 minutes.

    • Gradually whisk in milk and heavy cream.

    • Add salt, pepper, and thyme; simmer for 3–4 minutes until thickened.

    • Stir in Parmesan cheese until melted and smooth.

  • Assemble:

    • Layer half of the potatoes in the dish.

    • Pour half of the sauce over the potatoes.

    • Repeat with remaining potatoes and sauce.

  • Bake:
    Cover with foil; bake for 40 minutes.
    Remove foil and bake an additional 20–25 minutes, or until golden and fork-tender.

 

  • Serve:
    Rest for 5–10 minutes. Garnish with chopped parsley and serve warm.
