For the Bread:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup buttermilk

For the Cinnamon Swirl:

  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

For the Glaze:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Oven and Pan
    Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×5-inch loaf pan or line with parchment paper.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients
    In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and nutmeg. Set aside.
  3. Cream Butter and Sugar
    In a large bowl, beat softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.
  4. Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients
    Alternately add the flour mixture and buttermilk to the wet ingredients, beginning and ending with the flour mixture. Stir until just combined; do not overmix.
  5. Prepare the Cinnamon Swirl
    In a small bowl, mix granulated sugar and cinnamon.
  6. Layer the Batter
    Pour half of the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Sprinkle half of the cinnamon-sugar mixture over it. Add remaining batter and top with remaining cinnamon-sugar. Use a knife to gently swirl the mixture.
  7. Bake
    Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  8. Make the Glaze
    Whisk powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Drizzle over the cooled bread.
