  • Total Time: 20 minutes
  • Yield: 2-4 servings 1x

Description

Churro Stuffed French Toast is a decadent breakfast treat featuring thick bread slices filled with a creamy cinnamon-infused filling, coated in cinnamon sugar, and cooked to golden perfection. Perfect for brunch or special occasions!

Ingredients

Scale

For the French toast:

  • 4 thick slices of brioche or Texas toast
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2 tablespoons butter (for cooking)

For the filling:

  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the cinnamon sugar coating:

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Optional toppings:

  • Maple syrup
  • Whipped cream
  • Caramel sauce
  • Fresh berries

Instructions

1. Prepare the Filling

In a small bowl, mix the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy. Set aside.

2. Prepare the Bread

Using a sharp knife, carefully cut a pocket into each slice of bread without cutting all the way through. Spoon or pipe the cream cheese filling evenly into each pocket, ensuring the filling is spread throughout the inside.

3. Make the Custard Mixture

In a shallow dish, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, vanilla extract, cinnamon, sugar, and a pinch of salt until well combined.

4. Dip and Cook the French Toast

Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat and add butter. Dip each stuffed slice of bread into the custard mixture, allowing it to soak for a few seconds on each side. Let any excess drip off, then place the bread onto the skillet. Cook for about 3-4 minutes per side, until golden brown and slightly crisp.

5. Coat in Cinnamon Sugar

In a separate shallow dish, mix the cinnamon and granulated sugar for coating. While the French toast is still warm, coat each slice in the cinnamon sugar mixture, ensuring even coverage.

6. Serve and Enjoy

Plate the French toast and top with maple syrup, whipped cream, caramel sauce, or fresh berries. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

  • Chocolate-Stuffed: Add Nutella or melted chocolate to the filling for an extra indulgent treat.
  • Fruit-Filled: Mix in mashed bananas or diced strawberries with the cream cheese filling.
  • Crispier Texture: Cook the French toast in a mixture of butter and a little vegetable oil for a crispier finish.
  • Dairy-Free: Use almond milk, coconut milk, and a dairy-free cream cheese substitute.
