Ingredients
Scale
- 2 large apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
- 1 package (11 oz) soft caramels (such as Kraft)
- 2 tablespoons heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice (optional, to prevent browning)
- 1/2 cup chopped nuts, mini chocolate chips, or sprinkles (for topping)
- 12 toothpicks or small skewers
Instructions
- Prepare the Apples
- Wash and dry the apples thoroughly.
- Cut each apple into bite-sized chunks, about 1-inch in size.
- If desired, toss apple pieces with lemon juice to prevent browning.
- Insert a toothpick or small skewer into each apple piece.
- Melt the Caramel
- Unwrap the caramels and place them in a microwave-safe bowl.
- Add the heavy cream and microwave in 20-second intervals, stirring between each, until smooth.
- Let the caramel cool slightly to thicken for better coating.
- Dip the Apple Bites
- Dip each apple bite into the melted caramel, coating evenly.
- Let any excess caramel drip off before placing them on parchment paper.
- Add Toppings
- While the caramel is still sticky, sprinkle or dip the bites into your chosen toppings.
- Place them back on the parchment paper to set.
- Let Them Set
- Allow the caramel to firm up for about 10-15 minutes before serving.
- For faster setting, refrigerate for 5-10 minutes.
Notes
- Chocolate Drizzle: Drizzle melted chocolate over the caramel for an extra indulgence.
- Sea Salt Caramel: Sprinkle a bit of flaky sea salt on top for a sweet-salty contrast.
- Cinnamon Sugar: Roll in a mixture of cinnamon and sugar for a spiced touch.
- Nut-Free Option: Use crushed graham crackers or crushed pretzels instead of nuts.
