Indulge in these easy, homemade Mounds bars with just three ingredients—shredded coconut, sweetened condensed milk, and dark chocolate. A chewy, chocolate-coated treat that’s just like the store-bought classic!
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups shredded sweetened coconut
- 2/3 cup sweetened condensed milk
- 2 cups dark chocolate chips or dark chocolate melting wafers
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Coconut Mixture
- In a mixing bowl, combine the shredded coconut and sweetened condensed milk.
- Stir until fully coated and the mixture is sticky and well combined.
Step 2: Shape the Bars
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Using your hands or a small scoop, shape the coconut mixture into small rectangular bars (about 2 inches long).
- Place on the prepared baking sheet and freeze for at least 30 minutes until firm.
Step 3: Melt the Chocolate
- In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the dark chocolate chips in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until smooth.
- Alternatively, use a double boiler to melt the chocolate over low heat.
Step 4: Coat the Bars
- Remove the chilled coconut bars from the freezer.
- Using a fork or dipping tool, coat each bar in melted chocolate, ensuring full coverage.
- Let excess chocolate drip off, then place the coated bars back on the parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Let the chocolate set at room temperature or refrigerate for faster setting.
Notes
- Milk Chocolate Version: Substitute dark chocolate with milk chocolate for a sweeter taste.
- Almond Joy Style: Press a whole almond onto each coconut bar before freezing and use milk chocolate for coating.
